Alan Wilson is South Carolina's 51st Attorney General, first elected in 2010 and re-elected three times, making him the nation's longest-serving current Attorney General. He is a combat veteran who served in Iraq, earning the Combat Action Badge. Wilson has been a staunch conservative, defending South Carolina's voter ID law, challenging federal healthcare mandates, and actively opposing same-sex marriage. He announced his gubernatorial campaign in June 2025.
Wilson graduated from Francis Marion University with a degree in political science and received his law degree from University of South Carolina School of Law in 2002. He began his legal career working for Judge Marc H. Westbrook and served as an Assistant Solicitor and Assistant Attorney General. He has served as Colonel in the South Carolina Army National Guard since 1996 and was deployed to Iraq, where he led troops through enemy fire. His father is U.S. Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC).
