U.S. Representative from Kentucky's 6th Congressional District since 2013. Born July 24, 1973, in Lexington. Graduate of Henry Clay High School, University of Virginia (B.A.), and University of Kentucky Law School (J.D.). Previously served in the administration of Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher. Barr has served as senior member of the House Financial Services Committee and chairs its Financial Institutions and Monetary Policy Subcommittee. He also serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Native of Lexington, Kentucky, from prominent family (Barr Street named after ancestor). Father founded accounting firm and physician practice company; mother is deacon in Episcopal Diocese. Barr worked as staffer for Sen. Mitch McConnell early in career, learning conservative leadership before running for House in 2012. Unsuccessful first run for House in 2010; elected to House in 2012 and re-elected six times, winning by margins ranging from 3 to 29 percentage points.
