Background

Beth Van Duyne was born in Albany, New York, and moved to Irving, Texas, with her family in 1986 at age 16. She graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University with a degree in city and regional planning, government, and law. Before entering Congress, she worked as a consultant helping executives develop strategic business plans and legislative policy strategies. She served on the Irving City Council from 2004 to 2010 and was the first woman elected as mayor of Irving from 2011 to 2017. President Trump appointed her as Regional Administrator for HUD's Southwest Region in 2017, overseeing programs in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Arkansas. She is a divorced mother of two adult children.
