Summary

Brad Little is Idaho's 33rd Governor, currently seeking a third term. Born February 15, 1954, in Emmett, Idaho, Little grew up on his family's sheep and cattle ranching operation. He earned a B.S. in agribusiness from the University of Idaho (1977) and has maintained dual careers in ranching and public service for over 40 years. As a Republican, Little has emphasized fiscal conservatism, tax relief, education investment, and deregulation. He served in the Idaho State Senate (2001-2009) where he was elected Majority Caucus Chair by his peers, and as the 42nd Lieutenant Governor (2009-2019) before becoming governor.

Background

Rancher, legislator, and political veteran. Little was first appointed to Idaho State Senate in 2001 by Gov. Dirk Kempthorne and served 8 years representing Districts 8 and 11. As state senator, he was elected Majority Caucus Chair by his Republican peers in 2003 and held that leadership role until 2009. In 2009, Gov. Butch Otter appointed him Lieutenant Governor after Jim Risch's election to the U.S. Senate. He served as Lieutenant Governor for 10 years (2009-2019), focusing on economic development and leading trade missions. He was first elected Governor in 2018, defeating Democrat Paulette Jordan 59.8%-38.2%, and reelected in 2022 with 60.5%, defeating Democrat Stephen Heidt and independent Ammon Bundy.
