John Lujan is a 63-year-old state representative who represents Texas House District 118, which overlaps substantially with the new congressional district. He is a longtime San Antonio firefighter and Bexar County sheriff's deputy who entered politics later in life. Lujan flipped a blue state House district to Republican in 2021 special election and retained it in subsequent general elections. He is seen as a strong general election candidate with crossover appeal, endorsed by Governor Greg Abbott. Has been married for over 40 years with five children, three adopted.
John Lujan III was born June 7, 1962, in San Antonio where he continues to live. He spent more than 25 years as a firefighter with the San Antonio Fire Department, responding to emergencies and protecting families. He also served as a Bexar County Sheriff's Department deputy. After leaving public safety, he founded an IT firm which now has more than 550 employees as of 2026. He earned an associate degree from San Antonio College in 2005. He was first elected to Texas House in special election in 2016 (won), lost reelection in 2016 general, returned to win special election in 2021, and has held the seat in general elections in 2022 and 2024.
