Michael Cloud is a constitutional conservative first elected to Congress in a special election in 2018. He represents Texas' 27th Congressional District and has served since July 10, 2018. Cloud is a small-business owner who previously ran Bright Ideas Media and worked as media and communications director at Faith Family Church in Victoria, Texas. He graduated from Oral Roberts University with a degree in mass media communications. Cloud is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and chairs the Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies. He is also a member of the Freedom Caucus.
Michael Jonathan Cloud was born on May 13, 1975, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from Miamisburg High School in Ohio and earned a bachelor's degree in mass media communications from Oral Roberts University in 1997, where he was a member of the cross country and track teams. He is a small-business owner who ran Bright Ideas Media and served as media and communications director at Faith Family Church in Victoria, Texas. Cloud served on the Texas State Executive Republican Committee and chaired the Victoria County Republican Party from 2010 to 2017 before being elected to Congress. He succeeded Republican Blake Farenthold following Farenthold's resignation due to a sexual harassment settlement using public funds.
