Edward Miner 'Ned' Lamont Jr., born January 3, 1954, in Washington, D.C., is the 89th Governor of Connecticut serving since 2019. A Democrat and successful telecommunications entrepreneur who founded Campus Televideo, Lamont earned a B.A. in sociology from Harvard College and an MBA from Yale School of Management. He is running for a third term in 2026 to become the first governor to serve three consecutive terms since John Rowland. Lamont is married to Annie Huntress, a venture capitalist, and they have three children. He resides in Greenwich.

Background

Lamont was born in Washington, D.C., to economist Edward Miner Lamont Sr. and Camille Helene (née Buzby), born in Puerto Rico. He is great-grandson of J.P. Morgan & Co. chair Thomas W. Lamont. After graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy (1972), Harvard College with B.A. in sociology (1976), and Yale School of Management with MBA (1980), Lamont entered cable television industry. In 1984, he founded Campus Televideo, serving college campuses nationwide. He later chaired Lamont Digital Systems. Married to Annie Huntress (venture capitalist) since 1983; three children. Previously served as Greenwich Selectman (1987-1989) and 2006 U.S. Senate Democratic nominee, losing to Independent Joe Lieberman in general election. In 2010, lost Democratic gubernatorial primary to Dannel Malloy. Elected governor in 2018, defeating Bob Stefanowski (49-46%); re-elected 2022 (56-43%).
