Sara Rodriguez is Wisconsin's incumbent Lieutenant Governor since 2023, serving alongside Gov. Tony Evers. She is a registered nurse with extensive public health experience, including work as an ER nurse, CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service officer, health care system executive, and small business owner. Rodriguez was the first Democrat to announce her 2026 gubernatorial campaign (July 25, 2025), just 24 hours after Evers announced his retirement. She has raised over $2.5 million and received a historic $2 million commitment from the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association, the largest investment in a lieutenant governor seeking higher office.
Sara Rodriguez was born July 25, 1975 in Milwaukee metropolitan area. She graduated from Brookfield East High School and earned B.A. in neuroscience from Illinois Wesleyan University. She volunteered with Peace Corps in Samoa for two years and World Health Organization. She worked as registered nurse in ER at Mercy Medical Center Baltimore, then CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service (2004-2006), health care system executive in Colorado, and health care administrator roles. She returned to Wisconsin in 2011 and worked in health care leadership until running for Assembly in 2020.
