He was first elected to the Texas House in a special election on November 4, 2014, to fill the vacancy left by Brandon Creighton's election to the Texas Senate. He has been continuously re-elected since 2015, winning 80.3% in both 2018 and 2024 against Democratic opponent Mike Midler. Metcalf is married to Megan and has twin daughters.
